What the exam actually costs, how it compares to CCNA, and where the money can be saved.
The exam fee itself
$400 USD as of this writing, straight to Pearson VUE at scheduling — a real step up from CCNA's $300, which tracks with ENCOR being a professional-tier exam and not an entry-level one. Pricing moves by country/currency, so check Cisco's own page for your region before you build a budget around a US number.
One attempt, same as CCNA. ENCOR alone gets you the Cisco Certified Specialist — Enterprise Core credential; full CCNP Enterprise means one more concentration exam on top, priced and scheduled separately.
If you don't pass the first time
Same 5-calendar-day mandatory wait as CCNA before you're even allowed to reschedule.
And the same brutal math: every retake is another full exam fee, no discount for trying again. Realistic, timed practice exams before you schedule are worth more than however confident you feel walking in.
What training costs beyond the exam fee
Other real costs people forget to budget
Lab software, and this is the one people underestimate: Packet Tracer covers a genuinely narrow slice of ENCOR-depth topics (multiarea BGP, real multicast, automation), so Cisco Modeling Labs (CML) becomes the realistic platform — and CML's personal tier isn't free. Budget for it instead of discovering the gap mid-study.
A retake buffer, penciled in honestly — especially given Infrastructure alone is 30% of the exam and the single easiest place to underestimate how much study time it actually needs.
If full CCNP Enterprise is the real goal, the concentration exam (ENARSI, typically) is a separate line item entirely. ENCOR gets you close, not finished.
The honest total
Minimum realistic budget: ~$400 (exam only, self-study, first-attempt pass).
Typical realistic budget: $550–750 (exam plus a structured but affordable course, assuming one pass).
As with CCNA, the biggest cost-control lever isn't which course you buy — it's whether you actually complete the labs, capstones, and both practice exams before scheduling.
